What is Glycerin Soap?

Glycerin soap was accidentally invented in 1779 by a Swedish chemist. The chemist was heating an olive oil mixture where he identified the result as glycerin. With that said, glycerin is a type of carbohydrate known as sugar alcohol. These carbohydrates can be found in animal and plant oils, but all of our soaps are made from plant oils.

Glycerin soap is just soap containing glycerin. This type of soap is made by mixing the plant oils with an alkali, the most common being lye. Glycerin soap is made through a hot or cold method. Additionally, glycerin soap can be cloudy or clear, depending on the ingredients and method used.

Glycerin Soap Benefits

As we have already mentioned, glycerin soap is a great choice for all skin types, but sensitive skin can take great advantage of this type of soap. Those with dry skin conditions can take advantage of the benefits glycerin soap has to offer.

Acne, eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea are types of drying skin conditions that would benefit from glycerin soap. Glycerin is known as a humectant, meaning it assists in retaining moisture. By using glycerin soap daily, you can draw moisture to your skin, so it hydrates. Since more moisture is being drawn to your skin, it will feel softer, which will persist the more often you use it.
